OMG, Shoes

I tend to be the type of person that wears the same earrings every day, maybe rotates two different necklaces, and lets my shoes (and purses) go on and on until I am either stapling or taping them together (both of which, I ACTUALLY have done – not some of my finer moments.) It is also for this reason that I don’t own any bright pink platforms, flower flats, or blue suede shoes. I keep my arsinal small and simple. In fact, I wish I could get away with wearing the same “uniform” every day. It would just remove that whole “challenge” out of the equation. But alas, this is not socially acceptable, and while I do love styling my home, have a great appreciation for fashion, and even pin clothes (including shoes) all day on Pinterest, when it comes down to how I actually dress and shop, I want each piece to be as versatile as possible. I hate the idea of owning a pair of shoes that I can only wear with ONE outfit. I can’t say that this wouldn’t change if I won the lottery, but for now, as an apartment dweller with no space and a wife on a budget, I want my shoes cheap and to get much more than my moneys worth before I need to be super-gluing the heel back into place.

Right now, I am about at the point where my husband is embarassed to see me in my work shoes. They are in rough shape. So when my good friend, Chelsea (who runs her own, very cute, fashion blog, She Said He Said) tweeted a link about how cheap and surprisingly adorable Forever 21’s shoe line was, I quickly browsed and subsequently made a long list of shoes that I desperately wanted. I will admit, I only shop at Forever 21 on occasion, but their clothes are too affordable making it almost hard to avoid. Not to mention they seem to be the Starbucks of women’s clothing and are popping up everywhere. More-or-less, I would say my style isn’t consistantly lined up with theirs, but my goodness the shoes.

Like my apartment, I keep my clothing color palette pretty neutral and unchanged. My walls will forever be painted black and/or white and/or grey, and my shoes will either be black or brown. At least, until my budget greatly increases due to aforementioned lottery winnings. For now, my Forever 21 shoe wishlist is no different. I do have some concerns over the quality of the shoes based on their price, but with the rave reviews, on at least most of my favorites – I imagine I would pretty easily get at least their $20-35 price tag worth of wear out of them.

Here are the seven (yikes) I have narrowed it down to:

Shoes

1. Ankle Strap Platform Wedges, $24.80 – These would be a great option for my work shoes replacement.

2. Basket Woven Oxfords, $26.80 – I love the idea of these with some rolled up jeans or leggings or shorts or even a summer dress. Maybe I should also buy a summer dress(?)…

3. Tassle Zip Canvas Booties, $32.80 – These ones might be my favorite. I love the look of the shoes, my only concern is my kankle situation – a trip to the actual store may be needed to try these on before committing.

4.  Faux Leather Cowboy Booties, $32.80 – There may be a repeat-ing kankle issue here, but if not, I love how these look. I’m thinking skinny jeans, skirts, leggings, etc.

5.  Faux Leather Moto Booties, $34.80 – Number four and five are really like brothers from different mothers. The same pros and cons really exist with both – but I need the two color options, naturally.

6.Metal Trim Oxfords, $24.80 – If number three doesn’t work out, I want these in their place. Actually even if number three works out I still kind of love these. Also, they pretty much go with everything.

7.  Lace Up Booties, $34.80 – As much as I often feel like I am trying too hard when I wear heels, they do (normally) help make my disproportionally large, tree-stump legs look a bit better/slimmer. I gladly take any help I can get. And these heels feel a bit more approachable to me.

Let’s take a poll – which ones need to end up on my feet? All of them, right? That’s what I thought. All of them.

But really, I appreciate any thoughts. Are these just way too cheap that they must be junk-shoes? Am I seeing things and are these actually all fuzzy Hell0-Kitty slippers? Does anyone have any unwanted Forever 21 gift cards they would like to share so I don’t actually have to make any decisions? Do you hate shoes and think I should go back to not ever talking about them? This is a safe space.. bring on the commentary..

** this post was not sponsored by Forever 21, they just have some nice lookin’ shoes.

Miscellaneous Things I Wish I Owned, Volume Two

I spent a couple of days this week in downtown LA, which is a bit out of the ordinary for me, considering us South Bay-folk like to stay in our little bubble. While it was a wonderful experience with a few great friends, I left the city feeling young and re-inspired, yet super old and mundane at the same time. Needless to say, I ended up having a mild mental breakdown upon return to normal daily life, full of “who am I?”s, “what am I doing with my life,” or “how did I get HERE and where am I heading towards?” I don’t think I was able to fully answer any of those questions, after hours of self-pity-partying, but today I finally woke up remembering I don’t need to know or even ever fully figure out the solutions to these life problems. Sure it is great to have a plan and sense of direction, but I won’t get that time back that I spent feeling sorry for myself and overwhelmed. Maybe it is because I am turning 25 this year and it feels like this weird milestone that as kids we only looked to thinking “I wonder what awesome things I will be doing at age 25?,” and I am just not being honest enough with myself over what great things I have ACTUALLY already accomplished and what even more incredible things lie in my future. I am certainly a horrible pessimist most of the time, entirely cynical and self-deprecating, but every once in a while the positive and extremely motivated personality of my husband rubs off on me, bringing light to those gloomy days where I am simply giving in far too much to my negative thoughts. Maybe I am bipolar (probably shouldn’t joke about this sort of thing..) but just yesterday I was feeling terrible/depressed/confused, and suddenly today it clicked and I am feeling loved/grateful/hopeful. I know I am not the first to experience downer days like this, and I know it wont be my last, but I hope that if you ever have a few moments or thoughts of this variety, you do have someone wonderful in your life, like my husband, to help you power through it. And if not, I just want to extend the offer, for now and for always, that you can reach out to me and we can be sad little monkeys together and hopefully get past these sort of unmotivated and defeating moments.

I am not sure what any of this has to do with today’s post – nothing really, so how about we switch gears and put on those materialistic-hats, shall we? Here are five things that are super pretty and I want them. I want them and then I will Vine my doggie on or around or above or below them. And you will be very happy because you have yet another super adorable dog video for your viewing pleasure. Win-win-Jenny-win.

Miscellaneous Things I Wished I Owned, Volume 1

Am I the only one who would like to hit the reset button on 2013?

January 1 came this year and with it was a sourpuss attitude and zero motivation. Then depression set in. Why was I not being like the rest of the world and resolving to make some changes? Where was that new year energy and confidence that I was going to kick 2013’s tail-feather? Not sure. So far in January I have just felt defeated. It hasn’t helped that my life has just been totally crazy. Lots of changes, random/unexpected/unexciting busy-ness, and lots of stress. So earlier this week I started trying to take a step back. Figure my shiz out. I decided to let myself be excused of January. I know this is exactly what one isn’t supposed to do with the new year, but it’s what is happening. I am going to use the next two weeks to plan out my 2013 and celebrate my own fake new year February 1.

So what does that mean for the blog? Well, I don’t know all the details yet. I do know that I want 2013 to be the ‘Year of the Blog,’ make a logo, redo the website, all that badass-ness, but in the immediate future I am just going to be taking baby steps. First baby step – develop a reoccurring posting theme. Now this isn’t incredibly unique, of course, but I figured why not take advantage of the lists I am making daily.. meaning the lists of things I want to buy with all my imaginary lotto money..

Welcome to this weeks post. A few things for my home, something for my person, and even something for my doggie.

1.18.13 post

Olive – Go! Pet Design Field Tent:

Sadly Jenny wouldn’t fit in this, but my goodness it is cute. Maybe, if/when we get another dog/cat/stuffed chicken, if it’s a small enough dog/cat/stuffed chicken we might/probably won’t get this (but I will wish we had.)

You He She – Gylda Jewellery:

This Danish site has a lot of really nice pieces. I don’t own a ton of jewelry, mostly because my money has found other priorities, but I still like to look and plan to maybe one day buy.

Present & Correct – Cut Out Number Calendar 2013:

Since I am giving myself a pass on January, that means I still have a couple weeks to finally get a calendar, right? Well, there are about a thousand beautiful ones that I can’t seem to decide between. Yesterday I was really loving something different, tomorrow it will be another polar opposite option, but today, this is my favorite.

All Organic Textiles Etsy Store – Handwoven Turkish Bath Towel:

I have been really thinking about replacing our boring bath towels over the last few months. These pretty little coffee colored numbers are certainly top contenders.

Torre & Tagus (Amazon) – Retro Flip Clock:

Don’t buy this clock. I was on the fence on including this at all, because it has horrible Amazon reviews, but I just love how it looks! So I am simply  filing it away as a style of bedside clock I want to keep an eye out for. You would think there would be a ton of these, but I haven’t found much that is similar. I want the look, but with five stars. If anyone knows where I can get something like this, stop keeping it a secret and let me know.

In other exciting news, Alex said today that he has been thinking of “maybe starting a blog.” This of course could mean nothing, or it could mean that we could be totally cute blogging nerds together. Naturally his blog would be nothing like this one and have zero of the same readership, but I am still pretty excited about the possibilities. Keep your fingers, legs, and t’s crossed.

the MASTER PLAN

Happy Almost-Weekend, Mother-Lovers!

(I love my mom, and you should too.  Today she told me she reads my blog [HI MOM!], which makes her much cooler than your mom.  I’m sure your mom is cool, just not my-mom-cool.  Best mom ever!)

Since we recently gave the bedroom some much-needed lovin’ – yay, duvet cover! – time to switch gears and talk living room!  Gosh, this blog is just riveting!  How do I not have millions of readers?!

With the help of Adobe Photoshop’s free 30-day trial, I have created the MASTER PLAN.

Ladies and gentlefolks, I proundly present to you, my future living room (and kinda dining room):

Now a few caveats:  I’m already sick of that polar bear pillow.  I don’t actually own it, I just don’t like looking at it in this photo anymore – boo on you, expired Photoshop trial!  Don’t get me wrong, its cute, but in a nursery sort of way.  I am also not 100% in love or committed to everything in here.  I do like the idea of each piece though, meaning, for example, I don’t love the rug, but I do love the idea of a kilim/turkish rug there with some red in it.  Lastly, please ignore the rough photoshop execution. I didn’t want to spend hours on this but rather make a rough outline for Alex to understand where my heads at; I guess I heard “you are all over the place” too many times.  But to his point, I totally am.. sometimes.

I’m sure you are all dying to ask if any progress has been made yet.  Well, you will have to wait and see, won’t you?  Yes.  Yes, you will.

Who am I kidding, I can’t keep anything from you – just look at that face, who could keep anything from that face?  No one, I tell you.  Anyway, the answer is yes, but I can’t use all my good stuff in one entry, gotta spread the love.  Don’t change that dial, there is much more to come!

So what say you, interwebsters?  Suggestions?  Comments?  Gimme gimme.

Also, someone please buy me photoshop (no, not you, Mom) because my trial is now doneskies and I want it so so so bad.  The reason I cannot aquire this wonderful program is because the business people of Adobe are total jerks and understand they have something golden and marked up the price accordingly.  To like, thousands of dollars.  Basically,  it costs WAY too much and definitely doesn’t fit into the Moore budget.  I also would never let Jenny work the streets just because I want to make perdy pictures — even though she totally could because she definitely has it going on, seriously, you should see how all the boy doggies look at her at the dog park – I mean if they hadn’t already been panting..

WEST ELM ADVENTURE

Bonjour!

This last weekend, Jenny and I went on a very exciting adventure to a land called “Santa Monica.”  This is a great place, not only because it is in beautiful southern California, but because they have a West Elm.  And even beyond that — the Santa Monica shops almost all allow doggies, which means the bitches of the house got some hang out time. Enjoy the video games Mister Alex.

Here are some of the goods we walked away with, such a successful lady-date:
